Hallandale Beach, FL - Official City LogoHallandale Beach is a sea-side city located in Broward County, Florida. It is known for its Horse Track, Casino and Grey Hound racing. Located between Miami and Fort Lauderdale, it offers an amazing amount of amenities for all social classes and budgets. There you will find housing that can fit almost every type of budget, from super luxurious to budget housing, rentals, on the beach or in quiet landscaped neighborhoods. As of 2010, the city of Hallandale Beach had a population of around 37.000. That number tends to rise by as much as 10,000 or more during the winter, when Hallandale becomes the home for many people escaping the cold weather up north. These people are usually named “snowbirds”, and they are actually a very good boost to the local economy.  Hallandale is not the only one to receive that many people in the winter. It is just one of the dozens of cities inhabited by Northern folk. Opinions usually vary when it comes to welcoming these snowbirds. Some will complain about how they drive, how they fill out bars and restaurants, etc. I can guarantee you that business owner don’t mind them at all. They bring in millions of dollars in profit to both Broward and Miami-Dade County.Intracoastal Waterway in Hallandale, Florida
For you drivers out there, looking to spend some time knowing what Hallandale has to offer, then you’re in for quite a treat. It is super easy to get to Hallandale Beach. It is situated right between (from north to south) Hollywood and Aventura. If you are coming south from the Fort Lauderdale region, you will want to take I-95 south to Hallandale Beach Blvd., but you also have another route in case you see that I-95 is packed with traffic. You can head down US 1. It will take you longer to get to Hallandale, but you’d get there a lot faster than taking the highway. Now, coming from Miami, you’re not going to want to take US 1 all the way up. I mean, you can. But it will take you a very long time. But if you are interested in taking a scenic route, and you are coming from the Miami area, then drive east all the way to Collins Avenue, and just drive it all the way up to Hallandale Beach Blvd. That drive will show everything from ocean views to ultra-luxurious buildings. Especially when passing through Bal Harbour, where you will find, among other things, one of the most luxurious Malls (Bal Harbour Shoppes) in South Florida. Possibly one of the most luxurious open-aired Malls in the United States.

That’s only part of what you will be enjoying during your trip on Collins, though. You can have your pick when it comes to restaurants, bars, retail businesses and much more. You can stop for a while at Haulover Beach, and enjoy the fresh air. This is a beach that actually has 2 parts to it. There’s Haulover Park, on the West side of Collins and then you have the beach part, on the east side across the street. It is one of the only nudist beaches in all of Florida, and one of the only ones in the United States. And, thanks to South Florida multi-nationalities, on your drive up to Hallandale, you have your pick out of many Latino restaurants and Bars.

Gulfstream Village and Horsetrack in Hallandale, FLHallandale Beach, as previously mentioned, is the home for a couple of racing and casino joints. The most famous one being Gulfstream Park, opened many decades ago, but recently fully renovated, becoming a huge attraction for not only tourist, but for many living in that region of south Florida. You can get there by taking I-95 north or south, depending on where you are, and getting off on Hallandale Beach Blvd. Then you’d head East towards US 1 Biscayne Blvd and take it south all the way to Gulfstream Park which then wouldn’t be far away at all.

Hallandale is a city that has it all, including one of the fastest growing populations in all of both Broward and Miami-Dade counties. This is because, partly, of the immense amount of the retirees moving to the area. It also has a quite sizeable Financial district, with many banks and brokers. It wasn’t always like this though, seeing how the first ones to inhabit the area were the Seminole Indians and then, around 1900, some Europeans started moving into the area, and it hasn’t stopped growing since. The commerce in Hallandale is absolutely vast. Just open your front door that chances are, there’s a retail or restaurant right there. It is packed with shopping options, and it’s been like this, and it’s only getting bigger. Go, Hallandale.

Last but not least, the city of Hallandale and the Broward Transit system put together a very useful number of buses with plenty of routes going to, coming from and transiting around Hallandale Beach. Enjoy the air conditioning and make good use of the buses’ bike racks.
