Coral Gables, known by many as the “City Beautiful”, is a meticulously planned community in the County of Miami-Dade. With a population of about 48,000 people, it became part of the 1920’s “Land Boom” in Florida. It is said that by 1926, this community covered 10,000 acres.

Any tourist passing by Coral Gables will notice its Mediterranean Architecture, and even more amazing luxury homes. Truth be told, Coral Gables kept its founder’s dream. It hasn’t changed its architecture since the 20’s, and all it did was actually go beyond that dream. Nowadays Coral Gables is home for many International Companies and International Retailers. Not to mention that this city is where you will find the internationally recognized University of Miami.
This is truly a wonderful place to simply drive around in and appreciate its calm atmosphere, or enjoy one of its dozens of restaurants, bars, gourmet shops, etc. Not a far drive from Downtown Miami. Once on I-95, going south, you’ll be entering Coral Gables almost as soon as this Interstate ends and becomes US 1. From that point on, everything looks different. South Bayshore Drive is where you want to be. Look for this road as soon as I-95 ends. It is east of US1, and it is truly a beautiful drive. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful homes in all of south Florida, it is quite a change from the rest of Miami. Of course the real mansions are hidden behind gated communities, but the gates themselves are quite interesting.
The Landmarks of Coral Gables will always apparently be the Biltmore Hotel, the Venetian Pool and the Douglas Entrance. The Venetian Pool is absolutely worth the Drive, although it is not open during some parts of the year.
Coral Gables’ downtown was designed to have its establishments be no more than a couple of blocks apart from one another. Well, it grew a little more than just that. In fact, it grew much more than that, and downtoan Coral Gables became a huge shopping and dining center. Most of the stores and restaurants are what some might call “trendy” establishments, and they are very much worth the visit.
This city has a trolley system that runs up and down Ponce de Leon Blvd. It began its service in 2003, and it truly because a huge success. Actually 
a lot more successful than many predicted, improving anyone’s ability of getting around the downtown Coral Gables area without having to put up with traffic congestion and parking, which can be quite a drag. There are currently seven trolleys operating in the area, and it is predicted that this number will increase, as commerce in the area is indeed increasing.
Here’s a quick tip: Every first Friday of the month, you will find trolleys running up and down the downtown area until about 10pm. Not to mention that this trolleys also connect to the entire Metro-Dade transit system.
